Silent Film Festival in Redding

Redding’s 7th Annual Silent Film Festival - October 19-20

lilian-gish.jpgDavid Shepard of Blackhawk Films is renowned worldwide for film preservation. Shepard, who lives in Hat Creek, began restoring films when he joined American Film Institute in 1968 as one of their first staff members. in 1987, he bought the Blackhawk Films library. This is the seventh time Shepard has shared his treasures with Redding and the Shasta County Arts Council.

The festival runs Friday, October 19 at 6pm and continues Saturday the 20th starting at 10 am. Films are shown throughout the day finishing with D.W. Griffith’s Orphans of the Storm, starring the famous silent film sisters, Dorothy and Lilian Gish. The films will be accompanied with live piano music performed by Frederic Hodges.  for more information.
