Dancing with the Stars to Aid Shasta Women’s Refuge

dancing-with-cascade.jpgThe Shasta Women’s Refuge is one of our community’s most precious resources. It provides care and support for women who have nowhere else to turn. Their mission? To help end domestic violence and sexual assault in Shasta County. Participate in their largest fundraising activity, Dancing with the Stars – Shasta County Style. Six members of the community have pledged to raise $10,000.00 each in support of the Women Refuge’s mission. Each contestant will work with a dancing professional to prepare two dance routines for the competition at the Cascade Theatre in Redding this July 7.

Here’s how YOU can be a part of that support. One contestant, high school teacher Steve Main, is engaged in three fundraising activities over the next 6 weeks. First, he’s asking for hundreds of people to sell tickets to a raffle, the proceeds going directly to SWR. Will you please donate a prize for that raffle, or be one of those who will buy a ticket? Steve and his team are asking members of the community to assist by offering raffle items. Your business will be mentioned as one of the sponsors of this event, and thanked publicly during the raffle. Sponsors will be acknowledged on the big screen at the Cascade Theatre. Contact khanson@swr.org for inclusion in the donor recognition.

The second fund-raising activity commences Friday, May 25 at Anderson New Technology HS, where BBQ fans can buy a tri-tip dinner for ten dollars (sit down or drive by), or you may purchase an entire barbecued tri-tip for 15.00, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. (If you want a whole tri-tip, order in advance.) Order by purchasing a ticket, or calling 365-3100, ext. 3170. Please support our cause, and get some great food in the bargain!

Steve Main tells his students regularly to live life fully, take healthy risks, and challenge yourself beyond your expectations. He faces this new challenge with some trepidation– Steve is not a dancer. But with the help of his “pro” partner, Kathy Babcock, Steve assures us “There will be doncing!”at the Cascade Theater on Saturday, July 7, 2012. Tickets are available on the Cascade Theatre website. Kathy and Steve Main will be on hand Friday, May 25 at Anderson New Technology HS, to do a very short preview of the dance steps they have planned.

And the third way to aid the cause is to make a direct donation at Shasta Women’s Refuge website. (Fill in Steve Main, under “tribute information”). Steve Main and all the dancers thank you for your support in this mission. So buy a raffle ticket, buy a tri-tip dinner, or simply give what you can online via the link above.
