TheRAP – A New Face On An Old Place

There have been a lot of great changes going on downtown with the opening of theRAP, formerly known as Redding Ballet Academie. Cindy Michaels, past Artistic Director, recently made the decision to pass the school to longtime associate, Diana Christensen. With the change comes a new name, theRAP, which stands for The Redding Arts Project.diana-christensen.jpg

New director Christensen said, “I am so excited for the opportunity! We are so grateful to Cindy Michaels for her dedication to not only the ballet company, but to other arts organizations in town as well. I hope to be able to build on what Cindy has established and expand it to include classes and training opportunities in all areas of the performing arts.”

Cindy Michaels is still training ballet company dancers and plans to continue to be involved.

The Redding Ballet Academie has been a friendly collaborator from its inception. For example, Redding Theatre Company has called the ballet school home since its 2005 founding. Other great organizations that use the space, which has a large, mirrored dance hall, are Redding City Ballet, Artesan Dance Company, and Deeta Pasero’s Modern Gypsy, a Middle Eastern Dance Company.

In addition to existing classes, new classes will include a Jazz/Hip Hop class for preteens and teens, Tap classes for all ages, a beginning Pointe class, Adult Ballet, and coming soon, Yoga, a Flash Mob Class, and a Ballroom series! In the near future we will also be adding acting, and voice classes! TheRAP invites you to join them in an atmosphere of artistic expression and collaboration where beautiful talent flourishes.

The location is the same: 1726 Market Street, across from the Cascade Theatre in downtown Redding. Call the studio to inquire about events and classes at 245-1019.
