Shasta Family Justice Center to hold Ribbon Cutting

The community is invited to the grand opening and fundraiser for the Shasta Family Justice Center (SFJC) on September 1, 2010 from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 1670 Market St. Suite 300 located in the Atrium at the Market Street Promenade in Redding.

The SFJC provides Shasta County victims of family violence with coordinated services in one location.  Housing a multi-disciplinary team of professionals under one roof reduces the amount of time victims spend to get the help they need.  The SFJC will provide both urgent and long-term services in an effort to break the cycle of violence in Shasta County.

“The SFJC will build on the success of Shasta County agencies,” said SFJC Executive Director Michael Burke.  “The agencies involved in this important project are all familiar public, private and non-profit organizations that have been successfully operating to actively address domestic violence, elder abuse, child abuse and sexual assault in Shasta County for many years,” Burke said.  The SFJC does not replace these dedicated agencies, but rather co-locates, consolidates and coordinates the services to better serve clients.  Clients will benefit by having available to them a combination of emergency and long-term programs, services and interventions in one safe and secure location.  An improved case management system will enhance the exchange of information and resources among agencies providing assistance to victims.  In this way, victims are spared the frustrating and discouraging experience of telling, and therefore reliving, their story at each agency.

“Closing the gaps and coordinating existing services will improve accessibility to services for victims,” said District Attorney Jerry Benito.  “We are very excited to have this center opening in our community,” Benito said.

The ribbon cutting will take place at 2 p.m.   K-Shasta and Oldies 105.3 will broadcast live from the roof of the downtown parking structure.  The Redding Fire Department, Shasta County Sheriff Department, Shascom 911 and Redding Police Department will provide fun activities for kids.  Food and beverages will be served.
